A SIMPLE WAY TO ORGANIZE YOUR GOALS
Its new years and like so many others what I want to accomplish in the next 365 days (and beyond) is in the forefront of my mind. New Years resolutions have always been something that my opinion waivered on. One year I would be fired up and dreaming of how much better my life would be when the clock struck midnight the following year only to find myself bitterly disappointed at how much nothing had changed.
It was during those times of disappointment and frustration that I would turn to writing. I soon came to realized that I didn’t have a simple way to keep an eye on what goals I wanted to accomplish. Lists and thoughts would be lost to the pages of my notebooks as I completed journal after journal throughout the year. Realistically, I knew I wasn’t going to search through old journals to try and find those things. That’s when I started to keep everything on a loose leaf piece of paper that would be transferred to the pocket of every new notebook.
It was one New Years Eve when I found myself reflecting on the year that had passed and feeling like I had wasted it. I remembered that little list of goals I had neglected for the majority of the year. Why not sour my mood more and see what all I didn’t accomplish? To my surprise, I had accomplished A majority of what was on my list.
The reason I think I was able to accomplish so much was because of how I framed my goal. Most of what I had written was less so one specific goal and more so a category in my life I wanted to work on (ex “Savings”, “Weight loss” etc.) with a list of smaller milestones that I could cross off. For more specific goals (EX Getting my passport) I would list out all the steps I would need to do to accomplish that goal. Some were simple and satisfying to quickly remove from my list while others were things that would take months if not a whole year to complete. It was a great way to see that I was making progress towards what I wanted, and also a way to see what types of tasks I generally avoided or needed more of my attention.
I hope that no matter when you come across this article that you know its never too late to make a change!
PRINTING SUGGESTION: To have double sided goal sheets simply change your print settings to “Print on both sides of paper” and “Flip on Short Edge”
